Ottawa is Doors-Open this June 4-11th 2021!
Doors Open Ottawa is a free event put on by the City of Ottawa each year that encourages residents of Ottawa and local tourists to visit a variety of architecturally significant buildings.
As the city is still actively working to keep their citizens safe, the celebration will be taking place online for the second year in a row. What is exciting about this innovation is that anyone from across the globe can visit some of Ottawa’s amazing buildings!
Doors Open Ottawa is hosting virtual visits to more than 70 of Ottawa’s buildings. The virtual tours offer photos, videos, detailed descriptions, and 3D Virtual Tours.
We created 3D Virtual Tours for 7 of the properties that are a part of Doors Open Ottawa. We are honoured to help the City of Ottawa open its doors to welcome guests worldwide into some of our most unique and/or historic buildings.

Osgoode Township Museum

The Osgoode Township Museum is designed to protect, display, and study material and cultural heritage of the Osgoode Township. It is focused on rural and agricultural artifacts that represent the beginnings of the township and the history around it.
The Osgoode Township Historical Society was founded in 1972. It was on this day the society decided to work towards researching, collecting data, and preserving and publishing the history of the Osgoode Township.

Watson’s Mill
Location 5525 Dickinson St, Manotick, ON

Built in the 1860’s by Moss Kent Dickinson and Joseph Currier, the vision for Watson’s Mill was to build a milling complex and new community in what is now present-day Manotick. Watson’s Mill was used as a mill for over 100 years, celebrating its centenary, before the mill manager Harry Watson, the namesake, entered into a partnership with the National Capital Commission.
Today, flour can still be purchased from Watson’s Mill, which is fully operational. Take the opportunity to explore the historic Mill via a 3D Virtual tour, with special access to the watermill, only accessible virtually!
Ottawa Art Gallery

The Ottawa Art Gallery, or OAG, was founded in 1988 by local artists and community leaders. It was officially named the Ottawa Art Gallery in 1992. The OAG is also Ottawa’s municipal art gallery. They host over 1020 works including paintings, graphic art, sculptures, new media designs, and photographs.
Below, tour the “Firestone” collection of Canadian Art. This exhibit features over 1600 works by influential Canadian artists. Some notable names include Maxwell Bates, Edwin Holgate, Henri Masson, and more.
Fairfields Heritage House

Fairfields Heritage House is a 19th century Gothic Revival farm house. The preserved home was once owned by the Bell family. The museum within it tells the story of over 200 years of local history. Nearly 175 of those years the home was owned by the Bell family.
Review over 3000 artefacts including furniture, art, and personal belongings of the family. Visit the Cabinet of Curiosities within the museum to see some weird and whimsical possessions!

Embassy of Hungary to Canada

Located in the historic Birkett Castle, the Embassy of Hungary in Ottawa is filled with a rich history. Birkett Castle is a nickname for the building once resided by Thomas Birkett. Birkett was born in Ottawa, was the mayor in 1981, and was a member of the House of Commons representing Ottawa from 1900 to 1904.

ByTown Museum

Situated in the heart of Downtown Ottawa, the ByTown Museum is a reflection of the area’s rich history, and a 3D Virtual tour will take you through the museum’s permanent exhibits, detailing the history of Canada’s capital. It is the oldest stone building in Ottawa, built in 1827.
Through our interactive 3D Virtual tour, full of detailed infographics, virtual visitors can learn about the historic arrival of Lieutenant-Colonel John By, the construction of the Rideau Canal during the lumber era, the naming of Ottawa as Canada’s capital, all the way through to the First World War!
Dickinson House Museum
Location 1127 Mill St, Manotick, ON K4M 1A2

Built in 1867, Moss Kent Dickinson built the now-named Dickinson House with a New England architectural style. The building was originally used as mill offices, a post office, and a general store. Dickinson moved into the house in 1870, keeping the general store below. The family lived in the home for another 60 years, operating the mill.
The Dickinson Family assisted in the growth of Manotick through the milling industry, and also served as postmasters, participating in local politics, and founding community organizations. The house was then taken over by two further mill-owning families: the Spratts and the Watson’s. Despite Harry Watson asking for the building to be named Watson’s Mill, it is still named the Dickinson House to this day.
