In today’s fast-paced industrial real estate landscape, the use of 3D Matterport Virtual Tours is revolutionizing the way building owners, operators, and managers conduct their operations. Especially with warehouse and office real estate, these cutting-edge tours offer three pivotal benefits that enhance the industry’s efficiency and convenience: In this blog post, we dive straight into them using one of our latest warehouse virtual tours we created for Sarah Vanberbelt of Paradigm Commercial Properties and Nick Hannah at Lennard Commercial Realty.

Step Inside A Warehouse Virtual Tour

Empowering Building Owners:

A 3D Matterport Tour provides building owners with a digital snapshot of their property’s existing conditions before occupancy. This invaluable resource not only aids in lease negotiations but also equips lessees with a clear vision of how to return the building to its base condition at the end of their lease. It streamlines the leasing process, reduces disputes, and fosters a more collaborative relationship between owners and tenants.

Efficiency for Building Operators:

Building operators can effortlessly share digital copies of their facilities with key project stakeholders, including engineers and contractors. These tours transcend geographical and physical boundaries, enabling remote access to multiple facilities at any time. The result? Faster decision-making, more streamlined maintenance, and seamless project coordination.

Enhanced Property Management:

Property managers gain a powerful tool in their arsenal, allowing them to showcase properties to potential tenants even when in-person viewings are challenging. This is especially valuable for national occupiers and companies with a widespread presence. 3D Matterport Tours provide a cost-effective, immersive, and convenient way to explore and digitally share properties, ultimately attracting more tenants and optimizing occupancy rates.

Every Warehouse Deserves a Virtual Tour

The uses of 3D Matterport Tours for warehouses benefit every party involved in the successful acquisition, stabilization, and disposition of any building. That’s why it’s worthwhile, whether it’s a 5,000 square foot contractor garage unit or a 500,000 square foot logistics center. For lenders and appraisers, they are able to have multiple inspections of the real asset without follow-up site visits. The same goes for developers and landlords looking at a property. Building operators are better able to put projects out for tender by conducting virtual site showings or using the virtual tours to refer locations and job scopes.

In the competitive world of industrial real estate, 3D Matterport Virtual Tours are a game-changer. With benefits spanning from owner-tenant relationships to streamlined operations, property management, and wider industry use, they are a must-have technology for any warehouse or industrial facility.

For our example property, we didn’t stop at just the 3D Matterport Tour. We utilized our photography and aerial imaging services to create a portfolio of captivating images that emphasize the warehouse’s size, layout, and potential. These images serve as powerful tools to attract prospective buyers and investors, providing a visual narrative that complements the immersive 3D experience.

If you’re not in Eastern Ontario, you may not know that the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa benefits the mental, social, and physical wellbeing of children in Eastern Ontario. The CHEO Foundation achieves this objective by raising, managing, and distributing funds collected throughout several fundraising initiatives during the year, the most popular of which is the annual Dream of a Lifetime Lottery. It offers the opportunity to win more than $4.7 million in prizes including a CHEO Dream Home built by Minto Communities Ottawa alongside cars, cash, and leisure trips.

The CHEO Dream Of A Lifetime Home Lottery serves as an annual fundraiser for the Ottawa Children’s Hospital. Purchasing a ticket is a meaningful donation toward building healthier futures for children and youth, addressing the daily needs of the region’s sole pediatric hospital. Whether it’s ensuring access to life-saving treatments, surgeries, care for fractures, diagnostic tests, or participation in vital research studies, CHEO stands ready to serve every child and youth who walks through its doors.

If you want to support the Ottawa community and have the chance to win a dream home in Ottawa, the CHEO Lifetime Lottery is an annual fundraiser to consider. All you have to do is buy your lottery tickets and cross your fingers! The best part is even if you don’t win the lottery, all proceeds collected are used to fund the Children’s Hospital in Eastern Ontario. Your money goes to support the kids at CHEO!

The 2023 CHEO Dream Home Virtual Tour

The 2023 CHEO Dream Home is located at the south foothills of Manotick and is aptly named The Equestrian. The design, by Tanya Collins Design, exudes a moody British equestrian theme with a color palette of camel, navy, dark green, and rich burgundy. The 4,383-square-foot floor plan, based on Minto’s Juneberry model design with a custom interior design, is located in Minto’s Mahogany community. The lottery home design is the last for Tanya Collins, who has been designing CHEO Dream Homes on behalf of Minto for six years and is ready to give up the reigns to new Ottawa interior design talent.

The home offers a main-floor office, an open-concept kitchen, three full bathrooms, a climate-controlled wine cellar, a media room, and a private primary suite deck. Closing up the envelope is an exterior with ironstone grey siding and black windows.

The rich color scheme continues throughout the house, with the primary bedroom featuring a king-size leather bed and an opulent ensuite. An outdoor kitchen perfect for Summer evening entertaining includes a pergola made of Douglas fir with louvred cedar slats.

Finally, the garage accommodates an accessible ramp for lottery visitors and includes tools from Home Depot.

The 2023 Minto Dream Home is located at 364 Flare Grove in Manotick and is open to visit Tuesdays to Fridays between 12PM to 8PM and Saturday to Sunday from 10AM to 6PM. It is open for public viewing until December 15, and tickets are available online, by phone, or in person at the home.

Discover Ottawa’s Hidden Renovation Gems: Virtual RenoMark™ Reno Tour 2023 Presented By GOHBA

Another exciting year is here, and it’s time to unveil some of Ottawa’s best-kept home renovation secrets, all in the name of a great cause. We bring you the 3D virtual tours that make the virtual component of this event come alive.

A Glimpse Behind Closed Doors

The Virtual RenoMark™ Reno Tour is an annual celebration that shines a spotlight on home renovations in Ottawa that you wouldn’t typically get to see. For one extraordinary day, eight passionate renovators open the doors to their masterpieces, inviting the public to witness the transformation firsthand. After that, these 3D virtual tours offer an enduring digital showcase, allowing you to continue exploring these remarkable renovations online long after the in-person event concludes.

Your “Passport” to a Cause

You’re not just gaining access to these remarkable renovations; you’re also helping to build homes and dreams for those in need.

A Diverse Array of Renovation Styles

This year’s Virtual RenoMark™ Reno Tour promises an eclectic mix of captivating renovations, all nestled within the heart of Ottawa. From classic restorations that pay homage to the city’s heritage to ultra-modern makeovers that redefine contemporary living, there’s something to pique everyone’s interest.

In previous years, the RenoMark™ Reno Tour Presented By GOHBA was a lively, in-person affair, bringing together homeowners, builders, and enthusiasts to explore exquisite home renovations up close. However, in 2020, we introduced a groundbreaking change in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We introduced 3D virtual tours to ensure the safety and well-being of our community while continuing GOHBA’s mission to support Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa.

But here’s the exciting news: In 2023, we made a triumphant return to in-person tours and this year, seven enthusiastic participants opened their doors to over 100 eager Ottawa residents, allowing them to witness the incredible home transformations right in their own neighborhood. The in-person event was a resounding success, bringing together our community once again and raising vital funds for Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa. The virtual tours allow people who were unable to visit in person the ability to see inside unique Ottawa renovations on their computer, phone, or tablet.

Virtual Open Houses Finding a Home in Real Estate Marketing

Over the past few years, the value of virtual options for businesses of all types has skyrocketed, helping to keep large parts of the economy running during difficult times. However, in a post-pandemic world, virtual open houses continue to be a useful and unique tool in real estate marketing beyond just social distancing.

Open houses are a popular and effective strategy in the real estate industry, allowing multiple home buyers to view properties at the same time. While it is rare for a buyer to make an offer on a property without first touring it in person, virtual open houses have made the process more efficient by eliminating the impersonal, stressful, and staff-dependent nature of in-person open houses. With the help of 3D virtual tour technology, buyers can see a property in vivid detail, whether it is staged or empty, making virtual tours just as reliable as in-person tours.

When prospective home buyers are shopping for a house, they often line up several open house tours per day on weekends. While realtors try their best to keep them in close proximity in time and space, after the first 2 or 3, fatigue sets in, stress takes over, and the properties all begin to look alike, leaving buyers feeling frustrated and sellers unaccomplished.  If a prospect does manage to see a house, a follow-up visit is usually necessary especially with couples when only one of the buyers has seen the property. Often times several additional visits are even requested to show parents, friends, or even business partners.

Virtual Open House For Real Estate Sales

Choosing a home is probably the biggest decision one makes in their lifetime, so this is part of the natural process, and any real estate agent worth their salt understands this and accommodates these requests. But, in a seller’s market, inventory is low and demand high, properties sell fast, leaving home buyers, especially first-timers, feeling pressured into making a fast decision or risk losing the property.

With a 3D virtual tour, prospective buyers can do their own walk-throughs of properties from anywhere, and at any time, generating higher engagement and interest. Virtual tours allow buyers and sellers to come together online at a time that is mutually beneficial. Time constraints, crowds, and frustrations are taken out of the equation, which adds up to a smoother and less stressful process.  Because virtual tours, photographs, aerial photography, floor plans, and other measurements are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, buyers can examine the details, compare properties, and share the information with family, friends, and realtors at their convenience.

Further, 3D Virtual Tours attract more qualified prospects by giving viewers the most complete and accurate representation of the property, filtering out unqualified or uninterested leads, and attracting those that are genuinely interested in the property.

3D Tour Stats to Consider

  • 95% of prospects are more likely to call about a property with virtual tours
  • Properties that use 3D Virtual Tours sell at a 6% higher sale price than those without
  • Market time is decreased by 31%
  • Time viewing site is increased by 15%

Virtual open houses have become an increasingly popular and effective solution to these challenges in the real estate industry. By hosting a virtual open house, sellers can showcase their property to a larger audience and eliminate the need for multiple in-person visits. Buyers can view properties from the comfort of their own homes and at their own pace, without the need to coordinate schedules or travel.

Virtual open houses also offer convenience and flexibility for both buyers and sellers. Sellers can host virtual open houses at any time, making it easier to accommodate a wider range of interested buyers. And with 3D virtual tour technology, buyers can see a property in vivid detail, whether it is staged or empty, making virtual tours just as reliable as in-person tours.

And because most buyers spend more than two-thirds of their time online when searching for properties before they actually buy or rent, providing them with more information than ever, they are better equipped to make informed decisions. If a picture paints a thousand words, virtual open house tours paint millions.

Overall, virtual open houses provide a valuable and innovative solution for both buyers and sellers in the real estate industry, eliminating the fatigue and stress of in-person open house tours and allowing for more targeted marketing efforts. As technology continues to advance, it is likely that virtual open houses will become an increasingly important part of the real estate marketing process.

What is a Virtual Open House?

A virtual open house is an immersive online tour of a property, especially attractive to the first round of clients who would otherwise visit in person. An excellent feature used to show an agent’s buyers around a property from the comfort of their own home virtual tours are more than just a feature; they are revolutionizing the home-buying business. Take it from the Ottawa homebuilders eQ Homes and Richcraft Homes, who both integrate model home virtual tours in their marketing strategy.

Every year, we donate our 3D virtual tour service to support the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and scan the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime: Minto Dream Home.

Benefits of Virtual Tours for Real Estate Buyers

  • The 24/7 open house: Unlike traditional showings which require tedious scheduling and time constraints, virtual tours are “hosted” 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, giving visitors the opportunity to take their time exploring every corner of every room at their leisure and return to take a second (or third) look without the need to schedule an appointment.
  • See a property from anywhere: Because virtual tours are worldwide, clients who may have been able to travel to view the listing before having the opportunity to look at properties regardless of the distance, expanding the customer base on a global level.
  • Learn the layout better: Virtual tours are more detailed and easier to visualize than just photos and floor plans. Adding tours of the neighborhood, schools, and town centers, prospective buyers can gain a great insight into the area without ever stepping foot on the grounds.
  • Prospective buyers can take their time: Clients can spend more time in the rooms and areas that matter to them. If someone is especially interested in closet space, they can take time to explore every storage space in the home. Those who want to pay particular attention to the kitchen, yard, bathrooms, or office space can take their time to “walk through” the spaces that matter most to them without feeling rushed or crowded.

Benefits of Virtual Tours for Real Estate Agents

  • More visitors can view the space at once: Because virtual visitors don’t take up any space in the tour, the capacity is limitless.
  • Faster Deal Cycle: Present the complete information about a property in an immersive, online format that shortens your deal cycle by providing prospects with everything they need to close.
  • More Qualified Prospects: Attract more qualified prospects by giving viewers the most complete representation of your property which cuts down unnecessary site visits.
  • Save time, money, and a lot of hassle:  Intended to be the first viewing, the purpose is not just to reduce in-person viewings, but to ensure that the second physical viewings are qualified. By streamlining the time spent searching and narrowing down properties to view, buyers will only plan viewings for those in which they are most interested. Because an agent can spend as much as eight hours with clients on first-time viewings, virtual tours are a more efficient marketing tool.
  • Immersive experience: By offering an extra dimension and immersive experience, virtual tours enhance the value of online hosting substantially, helping to set the agency apart from the competition. Because 80% of first viewings don’t lead to a second, agents can eliminate wasting time on clients that have little or no intention of purchasing.
  • Accessible to buyers with physical limitations: Virtual tours make showings to prospective buyers with restricted mobility or other issues that make it difficult to view properties in person possible. Visiting numerous properties  is a time-consuming and draining process for anyone, but for those with disabilities and special needs, it’s just that much harder.  Agents can provide all prospective buyers with an immersive experience regardless of their limitations.
  • Show properties in their best light: It’s always sunny in the virtual world. Because 60% of viewings are done on evenings and weekends,  3D Virtual Tours have the ability to change the time of day making it easier for agents to show the home’s interior and exterior in daylight, no matter what time of day it really is.
  • Editing Tools Highlight Property’s Best Features: Virtual technology also makes it possible to portray the property in its very best light, in springtime, for example,  even in the dead of winter. Virtual gardens, lawns, pools, and other exterior features can be virtually optimized as well. Grass made green, pools blue and clear, and gardens filled with colorful spring flowers.
  • Less disruptive to sellers’ lives: One of the hardest parts of showing homes to prospects is encouraging sellers to keep the house clean and tidy without being a thorn in their side. This can be especially difficult for sellers with small kids and pets or who work from home. With pre-recorded virtual tours, sellers never have to worry about keeping the property constantly neat and tidy or having their family or work life disturbed.
  • Elevate a property’s aesthetic appeal with virtual staging: Virtual staging: Virtual staging can add, change,  or upgrade interior design elements to 3D tours and images, in order to make a property, more aesthetically pleasing or easily understood by a buyer. Virtual staging and interior design can be personalized to fit the age or style of the prospective buyer.

Like many other industries that pivoted during the pandemic, the real estate market has changed forever and virtual tours are a huge part of that change. Most of our clients are now including a 3D Tour with every listing because it helps qualify buyers and quickens closing the real estate sale. As a buyers agent, having a digital twin of multiple exclusive listings gives clients the freedom to tour many homes as many times as they want, all from the quiet and convenience of their own home or office.

3 Ways Virtual Tours Can Help Transform Your Onboarding Program

Gamification: Gamification takes the “snore factor” out of the training equation by adding a little friendly competition to the mix.

3D-enabled gamification can not just be used to represent your actual space accurately, it can also transform the traditional yawn-inducing onboarding process, creating an alternatively more engaging, enjoyable, personalized experience. As such, not-so-exciting facility tours or slide decks on topics like company benefits and policies could be converted into fun games making staff’s eyes open a little wider and allowing pertinent information to be better absorbed.

Asset Management Using Virtual Tours

Functional training: Virtual training with virtual tours can be especially beneficial for certain jobs and functions that are inherently dangerous, highly stressful, or involve the use of expensive machinery. For example, electrical engineers and grid technicians can use virtual training modules to simulate real-life scenarios or introduce new technicians to locations virtually.

Virtual training can also be used to onboard and train sales and field service teams by creating immersive videos that demonstrate how a finished product looks or functions, educating them to be effective in the field without the expense of in-person training.

Team Assimilation: One of the top reasons recently hired staffers quit after only six months on the job is often the disconnect they feel with the organization. And many new hires cite the onboarding experience as one reason for the feeling of not being a part of it.

And because team training sessions do not always work out the way you’d imagined, 3DVR can have a significant impact. Increased interaction between teams from across the globe through virtual tours can help to bring the company together and create a united company culture.

Onboarding Examples

Many of our clients have already started to use 3DVR to optimize their onboarding process. Here are just a few examples.

Containerized Hydroponic System – The Growcer

The Growcer offers modular, plug-and-play hydroponic systems that allow for food production in remote locations and operations. With the use of 3D laser imaging and virtual tours, individuals can explore The Growcer’s sustainable hydroponic growing container and customer onboard online without physically visiting the location.

Both the sales and support teams at The Growcer use dedicated 3D tours to showcase their product to remote customers and provide clear, detailed support using virtual technology. Not only can the sales team introduce their hydroponic system to prospects from around the globe, but the use of 3D tours also saves on acquisition costs and has significantly improved sales from outside the province. Potential growers can also gain confidence in their purchase by exploring the virtual tour or previewing the units over a video call for user onboarding of the 3D tour.

See how VR is helping The Growcer grow their business here.

Car Dealership – Tony Graham Kanata Toyota

An in-vehicle Matterport 3D tour of a car dealership in Canada allows web visitors to familiarize themselves with the layout of the dealership and inspect the interior details of the vehicles before visiting in person. The tour also includes multimedia labels for users to learn more about each model, and includes features such as inventory pages, booking test drives, and in-tour vehicle customization.

With over 100 3D scans, this immersive 3D virtual tour allows online visitors to get a feel for the dealership and its vehicle models before visiting in person. The tour is also useful for Tony Graham Kanata Toyota to use as a tool for onboarding new staff, streamlining their entire onboarding process by familiarizing them with the dealership and its inventory before their first day of work.

Modular Containerized Compressed Air System – Halyard

Normally when showing and selling a containerized unit our client, Halyard, would fly their clients to the production facility or ship the unit to the customer’s country. During 2020/2021 with travel restrictions and the high cost of shipping a sea container to various Countries, Point3D developed a 3D virtual tour container system’s customer onboarding best practices. The 3D Tour was included in marketing materials and enabled thousands of client visits efficiently and safely.

The virtual 3D tours used to sell their containers have applications that extend beyond sales including training their teams on the equipment they’ll be selling before they enter the field.

Virtual tours are a valuable tool for businesses of all sizes, as they can save time and money while increasing the effectiveness of training. These tours can be used repeatedly, freeing up veteran staff and management to focus on their work.

In addition, virtual tours eliminate risk factors by allowing new hires to get up-close-and-personal with even the most dangerous machinery without disrupting the work of current staff or halting facility operations. As the workplace adapts to the new normal, virtual tours are a valuable resource for the training and onboarding process.

Virtual tours have become an increasingly popular tool for businesses and organizations looking to showcase their spaces and bring them to life. Traditionally used by real estate agents and vacation rental platforms for marketing purposes, the potential applications for virtual tours go beyond simply showcasing spaces.

Imagine having a 1:1 interactive 3D model of your space for virtual training and ongoing facility management. As the world shifts towards a hybrid approach to the workplace, businesses of all sizes are turning to virtual tools to enhance their training and facility management strategies. From small and growing businesses looking to attract top talent to large enterprises seeking to streamline virtual training and remote facility management, virtual tours can help drive innovation and efficiency in any organization.

Attract Top Talent With 3D Virtual Tours

Today’s job market is more unpredictable and competitive than ever before–not for job seekers though, but for employers trying to fill open positions. And in today’s tenuous economy, employers need to find faster and more cost-efficient ways to hire and bring new staff on board.  And because hiring great people is key to the growth of a business, the speed with which our people go from novice to contributor can be a big competitive differentiator.

Despite all of that, many companies ignore the impact of not having an effective and cost-effective onboarding program and continue dumping more and more time and money into recruiting. What’s worse is that after hiring and onboarding, it’s equally important to be sure the people you hire are likely to stick and stay.

Did you know that 90% of new hires make their decision about whether they want to stay or go within the first 6 months of employment? So if you’re going to the trouble and expense of recruiting and hiring, creating an onboarding experience that makes them want to stay makes good business sense.

Over the past year, more and more large corporations have begun finding unique ways to create more user-friendly and innovative onboarding experiences using virtual tours.

Virtual tours give new employees a snapshot of their new workplace before ever being physically present. Corporate candidates can virtually visualize their new career with your company – looking forward to their first day in the workplace, perfectly comfortable already knowing the layout and the setting through the virtual tour.

Workplace Virtual Tour

User Onboarding and Virtual Training

Integrating 3D Virtual Tours into virtual training programs can provide new employees with a comprehensive introduction to your facility and its operations. Its how to make virtual training more engaging. This method of onboarding is both engaging and safe, as new workers can familiarize themselves with the space from the comfort of their own office or home. In addition to allowing them to virtually walk around the building and get a sense of the layout, 3D Virtual Tours can also include multimedia tags to label equipment and provide relevant information, as well as embedded training videos on how to use specific equipment. By including important procedural safety rules and WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) materials, virtual tours can help make onboarding faster, more effective, and more efficient without disrupting normal workflow.

Use 3D Virtual Tours for Virtual Training

Safety First

One of the major benefits of virtual training is the ability to provide new hires with a comprehensive introduction to your facility without disrupting daily operations or introducing unnecessary risks. This is especially useful in high-capacity or high-risk environments with dangerous machinery, where in-person tours may be difficult to plan and manage safely. Virtual tours allow new employees to familiarize themselves with the space without interference, and the added benefit of including multimedia labels, informational text, videos, photos, or links to web pages allows for more detailed explanations of dangerous machinery without exposing those unfamiliar with the facility to injury. Overall, virtual training with 3D Virtual Tours can be a safer, more efficient, and more effective way to onboard new employees in a variety of environments.

View dangerous areas remotely with 3D Tours

Get all the Info – the First Time

In-person onboarding can be a fast-paced and overwhelming experience for new employees, particularly when multiple people are being onboarded at the same time. This can make it difficult for new hires to ask questions or fully understand everything they are being taught. The person giving the tour may also be rushed or forget to cover important details, leading to gaps in knowledge.

Multimedia tags in virtual tours provide new hires with the ability to revisit and review information that they may not have fully understood during the initial tour. They can re-read text, re-watch videos, take notes, and know exactly where in the tour these resources were mentioned, allowing them to use them effectively on the job. In addition, virtual tours can include frequently asked questions to provide new hires with the information they need without having to ask for it. This helps to ensure that new employees have a comprehensive understanding of their new workplace and are prepared to succeed in their roles.

Asset Management Using Virtual Tours

Training Made Easier and More Effective

For businesses that require equipment training, onboarding new employees can be a time-consuming process. However, virtual tours can make this process more efficient by integrating job or task-specific lessons. With virtual tours, new hires can review the location of different machinery and access multimedia tags to visit webpages with quizzes or lessons or watch videos that explain how the equipment works. This flexible approach to onboarding allows new employees to learn at their own pace and when they are most receptive to new information, resulting in more effective training. Studies have shown that this type of flexibility can improve the effectiveness of onboarding and training.

Save Time and Money

Virtual training environments can save time and money by eliminating the need for travel, whether it is sending training staff to field offices or flying new hires to the corporate headquarters. While in-person meetings are important for creating an inclusive workspace and providing hands-on training in certain industries, incorporating virtual training into onboarding can free up senior employees to focus on their own duties and allow new hires to learn the ropes at their own pace. This can be especially beneficial for industries where safety is a concern, as remote visits allows for a safer and more thorough introduction to the job without the risk of injury or feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, virtual training can be more cost-effective as it reduces the need for travel and accommodations.

Sample Tag from Training through Virtual Tour

Virtual tours have the potential for saving businesses of all sizes time and money, increasing the effectiveness of training, and can be used again and again, freeing up your veteran staffers and management to do their work.

Eliminating the risk factors, virtual tours have the advantage of bringing new hires up-close-and-personal with even the most dangerous machinery, allowing your current staff to continue working and your facility to keep operating, making the onboarding process less intrusive and a lot safer. As the workplace adjusts to this new normal, virtual tours are the next frontier in the training and onboarding process.

With tremendous Automotive and Marketing industry experience, there is no better company in Ontario for capturing Dealership Virtual Tours than Point3D Commercial Imaging.

It used to be all about radio advertising, and catching drivers on their commute to and from work, but now most dealerships are opting to spend more and more of their marketing budget on digital marketing. It’s 2022. For some dealerships, traditional media like radio, TV, and Out-Of-Home advertising spend still dwarfs digital. But other dealership groups are using digital marketing to generate local brand awareness and brand recognition at a more competitive cost than blanketing the airwaves with dealership ads. As cars are seldom sold online and without a test drive, the digital strategy of these car dealerships is to attract consumers to their showrooms. Having the consumer confident about the showroom and ready to buy so that a salesperson can easily sell them is everything. Enter dealership virtual tours and take it from Evan McCosham, Marketing Manager at Tony Graham Automotive Group in Ottawa, ON.

“After deploying them on our contact page, the dealership virtual tours enticed online visitors to make appointments and to visit in person more often.”

– Evan McCosham, Marketing Manager, Tony Graham Automotive Group

We’re helping Tony Graham Automotive Group and many other dealerships in Ontario by creating dealership virtual tours with 3D Matterport every year to keep up with the latest-generation flagship models. Our service provides the most immersive and state-of-the-art dealership virtual tours. The 3D Matterport tour is embedded onto the dealer’s website, a Google Street View tour is added to Google Maps, the 3D Tour is shared in monthly dealership promotions (i.e. flyers, newsletters), and in other sales communications.

Using the 3D dealership virtual tour a user can freely preview the entire dealership, learn more about select models, and book a consultation or test drive. Using multimedia labels, the 3D Matterport tour embedded on the websites can add additional context, videos, and more. Our systems are integrated with the inventory stock of the dealership and can let a user know if a particulate model is available to be seen at the dealership. When users do visit in person they are ultimately more comfortable as they will recall the layout and car models in the dealers’ showrooms. This results in confident buyers more often for the car dealership sales staff to work with in person.

We love to capture 3D Matterport dealership tours. One of the unique features of our 3D Tours over other companies is the ability to show the interior of car models in 3D. We scan the vehicle interior allowing users to step right inside of the latest and greatest car models, see the dash, and really get a feel for the car. From the driver’s seat, users can see the sales brochure, watch a video, or even book a test drive.

We are digitizing dealerships and making them visitable online in 3D. By seeing the dealership showroom and vehicles virtually, consumers are more genuinely interested when they decide to visit in person. Our dealership virtual tours have been viewed over 55,000 times over the past three years, think of how many converted into in-person visits?

We know that every year, more dealerships want to share their showrooms online to the public looking their best and stocked with the latest generation of vehicles. We work with Marketing Managers to supplement their car dealership digital marketing strategies with 3D dealership virtual tours.

Dealership Virtual Tours for Toyota

Tony Graham Automotive Group was the first dealership in Ottawa we had the pleasure of visualizing in 3D. Tony Graham has incredible brand power and their radio tagline from the 1990s is still unforgettable to any Ottawa native. In fact, our Founder Spencer MacPherson’s first car, a 1995 Toyota Corolla, was originally purchased at Tony Graham Toyota on Merivale. Since then, MacPherson’s belief in the Toyota promise of reliability and quality remains to this day. The company car is now a much updated 2019 Toyota Corolla. In this dealership virtual tour, the Toyota Corolla Hatchback and Toyota 86 were featured as brand-new models that year.

Dealership Virtual Tours for Lexus

After the first dealership virtual tour at Tony Graham Toyota, other car dealerships were looking at using 3D Tours on their website. Toyota’s more affluent or well-dressed cousin, Lexus, was looking for a way to bring more clients to their dealership With an email request to Point3D, they procured an estimate for a dealership virtual tour including in several vehicles. The cost is nominal and could be co-opted by the Lexus brand as a marketing initiative. This ultimately made it more feasible for a new 3D Tour to be created each year. We now visit annually when new-generation models are released to update the car dealership 3D Tour.

Dealership Virtual Tours for Kia

We don’t just service Ottawa, Ontario. When car dealer Kia Durham reached out looking for a car dealership virtual tour with Matterport, we sold them on our expertise in capturing the very best Matterport scans with cars in dealerships. We chose a day that space was closed to the public, cleaned, and with each vehicle specially placed to allow navigation and completed the 3D Virtual Tour capture. The Matterport scan took a full day to complete, with deliverables ready within that same week. To deploy the marketing collateral, the car dealer set up a “Shop From Home” sales funnel that incorporates the 3D Tour and embeddedd it on the contact page of their website.

At Point3D, we’re creating large Matterport scans at scale.

Since our beginnings, we at Point3D have been avid enthusiasts and proponents of everything 3D. The platform we trust the most for 3D Virtual Tours has always been Matterport. There just isn’t anything like it available on the marketplace and with the latest generation Matterport Pro2 camera (which we’ve named ours Matty), offers stunning 3D visuals with high-quality 36-degree views and is easily shared to any device with an internet connection. It’s not just single-family homes we’re scanning either. We’re pushing the envelope with Matterport scanning to create immersive 3D experiences for all sorts of creating and unique applications.

When scanning more complex or larger spaces with Matterport, our technicians use refined survey and laser scanning methodology to properly capture a space. While a single-family home may only take an hour with under 100 scans, some commercial and industrial real estate take days to scan with Matterport using over 1000 setups.

The biggest mistake new Matterport operators make is not introducing trusted survey methods into their workflow to make it easy for Matterport’s scan registration automation. A haphazard or “misaligned” scan will not impress their clients. Without proper scanning methodology, a square space can skew to one side inaccurately or be missing data.

Point3D Scanning the Babs Asper Theater at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.

We have experience with large Matterport scans in Canada and in the United States. We can scan using Matterport in complex and outdoor areas, and up to hundreds of thousands of square feet. Our team enjoys the challenge of scanning large open warehouses for space planning, entire buildings for commercial real estate transactions, and outdoor spaces for art/culture purposes.

Typically spaces over 20,000 sq. ft. are a challenge even for experienced Matterport Service Providers. With the right expertise and the right equipment, large Matterport scans can be planned and 3D Tours created easily.

One way we make otherwise difficult Matteport scanning possible is by using the Leica BLK360 (a.k.a. Bella) to scan and integrates true LiDAR data into the Matterport 3D Tour. The BLK360 allows scan data to return further than with the Matterport Pro2 camera and for larger spaces to be properly captured.

Our Largest Matterport Scans

We’re proud to show some of the spectacular spaces we’ve had the opprtunity to visit and capture with Matterport 3D cameras. The platform has allowed us to share thousands of unique places with others online and in 3D. Over time, we’ve excelled in championing Matterport scanning and have since captured several large Matterport scans in Canada.

With this warehouse operator looking for more efficiencies in racking layout, our 3D Matterport tours helped designers in the United States with visualizing their Canadian locations in 3D. These visuals helped clarify as-found conditions and allow assisted with maximizing merchandise space without sacrificing useability and safety.

Large Matterport Scan For Commercial Real Estate
Toronto, Ontario

Selling commercial real estate worth hundreds of millions of dollars as part of portfolio sales has certain requirements from the selling agent. To best list these two buildings in Toronto, CBRE Toronto Downtown added our Matterport 3D Tours as part of their selling presentation. We conducted Matterport scans of several floors of each building to show potential investors outside of the country the typical building condition. This assures both buyers and sellers had true visual references for due diligence and ultimately assisted to the sale of the two buildings in Toronto.

Large Matterport Scans For Industrial Real Estate
Markham, Ontario

We were called to create a 3D Matterport virtual tour of an industrial warehouse in Markham after the client’s in-house team was unable to properly capture the 152,000 sq. ft. building. With our equipment and expertise in 3D Laser Scanning, a large Matterport scan was no issue for the team. This was created in three days.

This month we are touching on Warehouse Virtual Tour work we’ve completed for the Industrial Real Estate Industry in Ontario.

A warehouse virtual tour is a multi-functional digital asset for building owners and managers. Having a 1:1 digital twin of any space available for viewing anytime is a powerful tool to reduce vacancies, solidify brand confidence, and even increase orientation or overall productivity. Point3D has performed reality capture to many warehouses in Ontario for commercial real estate listings, brand digital marketing, and facility management. No size of warehouse is too small or too large for us to capture. In Ontario, we’ve created 3D Tours of crawlspace mechanical rooms to warehouses spanning hundreds of thousands of square feet.

We are providing 3D Matterport virtual tours, real estate photography, floorplans, and as-built building information models for warehouses in Ontario. From virtual tours to point clouds, Point3D is enabling companies to work faster and smarter with the built environment.

Our aim is to support the entire lifecycle of buildings from space planning and construction, to operation and promotion. When it comes to warehouses, there are use case scenarios at each stop.

Using the Leica BLK360 to Matterport Scan a Warehouse in Toronto

Warehouse Virtual Tour for Space Planning

After all the work of finding the right warehouse, it’s time to move in. For manufacturers and production facilities, moving and installing their operations can cost millions of dollars. When installing new equipment in a new base fit-up or existing complex conditions, smart designers and engineers are using 3D Tours to see the existing conditions and learn how to optimize the space. With the tool, the spaces can be measured, viewed, and checked for walking clearance. Existing equipment can be spatially rearranged and configured virtually, other 3D models of equipment can also be imported. This helps the planning process move from vision to reality while reducing change orders and on-site issues when installing equipment in a new facility.

Space Planning: Logistics Warehouse Virtual Tour
Brampton, Ontario

Using the warehouse virtual tour and 3D model, designers and engineers were able to reconfigure this space to maximize efficiency moving 100,000 packages a day.

Warehouse Virtual Tour for Training and Orientation

Warehouse operations have been heavily impacted by the pandemic while demand is at an all-time high. This has resulted in competitive companies swallowing market share and growing intensely. When operating a warehouse in Ontario, safety is always number one and when hiring a ton of new staff, introducing them to workplace safety is important.  To expedite the onboarding of new hires, some companies are providing a 3D Virtual Tour of their warehouses to allow new hires to walk the space and with the use of multimedia labels, introduce company practices, policies, and equipment.

Operation: Manufacturing Warehouse
Toronto, Ontario

This Manufacturing Training Centre was captured to provide new employees the ability to see their workplace facilities and equipment so that they are ready to go on day one.

Warehouse Virtual Tour for Acquisition, Sale, Or Divestment

Industrial Real Estate is also still on fire in Ontario and shows no signs of stopping with this recent industrial real estate transaction in Ontario. So while it’s not possible to be everywhere at once, having a warehouse virtual tour gives building stakeholders the ability to see it from any angle, anytime. Interested buyers and potential tenants can take a look at floorplan and walk the entire space at their own pace. This freedom lets them truly understand if the space fits their needs, more so than real estate photography and video. And while this won’t serve as a replacement for a building inspection, it would provide insight into which areas require more due diligence earlier in the deal. This ultimately saves building owners and national occupiers costs for in-person viewing while quickening the speed to lease or sale.

Promotion: Logistics Warehouse Virtual Tour
Ottawa, Ontario

Using the Leica BLK360 and the Matterport Pro2 devices to create building marketing collateral that ultimately led to the sale of the building to an international buyer.

We are 3D Virtual Tour Specialists

We are happy to announce we have joined the Canadian Museum Association to better connect with museum professionals in Canada

You already know that Point3D is on top of the Museum virtual tour industry so it should be no surprise we are also a corporate member of the Canadian Museum Association. Through membership, we have connected with and done work with several Canadian Museums in capturing their exhibits and event venue space with 3D Virtual Tours. The immersive experiences extend the traditional reach of the exhibits, allowing for online visits by users around the world. They also give curators the ability to share more than just pictures with other institutions looking to sponsor and host exhibits.

The Canadian Museum Association is an organization working together to support Canada’s museum community. It includes volunteers and national institutions alike to build stronger museums and “a better Canada.” The association advocates for a variety of initiatives in the education sector, provides a huge host of jobs, works on the Truth and Reconciliation Program (specializing in Action #67), and partners with museums across Canada to achieve this!

Snapshot from a 3D tour of the Firestone Collection of Canadian Art at the Ottawa Art Gallery
We captured the opening Firestone Collection at the Ottawa Art Gallery back in 2018. Since then, we have re-visited the OAG several times to capture virtual tours of several other collections and expositions.

A member of the Canadian Museum Association furthers the objectives of the Canadian Museum Association. Our participation includes paying the membership fee to keep the Canadian Museum Association running and then offering special pricing to museums in order to support their reach and general museum education across Canada. Our membership fees go towards the association’s advocacy for public policy, support, building skills in the profession, and building connections between museums and their supporters. We are happy and proud to work alongside museums across Canada that are educating young minds and keeping the history of Canada alive!

Located an hour north of Toronto, The Sharon Temple was constructed by the Children of Peace, an Upper Canada Quaker sect from 1825 – 1831. The Temple is an architectural symbol of their vision of a society based on the values of peace, equality, and social justice. We captured Museum 3D Tours of six heritage buildings on the property to allow users to explore artifacts, and immerse themselves in the Museum from any computer or cell phone!

With four buildings throughout the property, Champlain Trail Museum approached Point3D to create a museum virtual tour that could let users traverse between them. After scanning the separate buildings, they were connected with multimedia labels to do just that!

Rooted in Rural is a new permanent exhibition that explores Osgoode township’s rich agricultural and rural roots. Hosted at the Osgoode Township Museum, the exhibit was captured over the Summer of 2021 to create a museum virtual tour that could be shared with Ottawa-area schools in the Ottawa Catholic School Board and Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.

The Canadian museum virtual tour that started it all, Bytown Museum. Set in Ottawa’s oldest stone building next to the Rideau River locks, this Museum features a permanent exhibition of early Ottawa, the Bytown, and the construction of the Rideau River locks themselves.

For us, the Bytown Museum is one of our earliest adopters of museum virtual tours and a long-time supporter of our business. We regularly re-visit the museum to capture temporary exhibits held on the second level of the building.

We are Ontario’s 3D Virtual Tour Experts

We offer a unique and extensive experience providing fast, realiable service for the most complex scanning environments. Our immersive 3D Imaging can serve as a solution to a wide range of industries.
